What is enamelware made of?
Enamelware is metal, aluminum, cookware coated in a porcelain lining that makes it easy to clean, safe to heat, and long-lasting.
Enamelware was manufactured again in the US during the 1960s and is produced in various locations around the world today.
The interior of the enamelware, as prepared by the steam lathe, is covered with a white paste, and put into the oven to be dried. After drying, it is transferred to an enameling oven, where white heat, sufficient to melt glass, is applied, which fuses this coating, making it soft as liquid glass. While in this state it is swiftly taken from the oven, rapidly covered with a white powder, and immediately returned to the oven, where it is again subjected to a white heat, and finally taken out to be gradually cooled in the open air. The enamel is, in fact, a regular coating of porcelain upon the metal, and with ordinary care is imperishable.
Enamelware is food safe
Cookware manufacturers apply porcelain and ceramic enamels to the inner and outer surfaces of metal pans to make them easier to use and clean.
Although the porcelain can chip and reveal the metal underneath, it will naturally oxidize and still be perfectly safe to use. Children and adults can enjoy their food and drink without the risk of anything contaminating their food.
