Tea and Caffeine: not all teas are the same.

Tea with a little caffeine in it is my favorite way to start off the morning. But while it’s perfect for me, caffeine isn’t great for everyone. But before you rule out tea altogether, it’s important to realize that caffeine content in tea varies a lot from brew to brew. So, here is what you need to know about caffeine in tea.

Black Tea

Starting off strong, we have black tea, which typically contains the highest amount of caffeine among true teas. Averaging around 47 mg per 8-ounce cup, black tea is an excellent pick-me-up for those who need a little morning boost. However, it might not be the best choice for those with caffeine sensitivities.

Oolong Tea

Next in line is oolong tea, with its moderate caffeine content. It usually falls somewhere around 37 mg per 8-ounce cup. This semi-fermented tea offers a unique flavor profile, a delightful middle ground between black and green tea.

Green Tea

Green tea has been really booming in popularity and it’s no wonder with an earthy yet refreshing flavor and the fact that it has been regarded as a superfood. This tea is a bit lower in caffeine with an average of 28 mg of caffeine in green tea per 8-ounce cup.

White Tea

Then we have white tea, the lightest and least processed of the true teas. It contains the lowest amount of caffeine, around 15 mg per cup. With its delicate flavor and subtle sweetness, white tea is often seen as a good alternative to green tea for people who are less resilient to caffeine.

Rooibos Tea

Also known as red tea, this delicious brew is completely caffeine free. Like green tea, they are seen as a bit of a superfood with lots of antioxidants and have a wonderful flavor too… perfect for an autumn evening.

Herbal Tea

Lastly, for a completely caffeine-free experience, you'll love herbal teas. These no-caffeine teas are made from a wide variety of plants, fruits, and flowers, and contain no caffeine at all. Perfect for a soothing bedtime brew or for those who are sensitive to caffeine.

Summary

Hopefully now you have a better grasp of the different levels of caffeine in tea. But whether you love a kick to start your morning or you just want a deliciously brewed tea with none of the caffeine, Blue Moon Tea’s have a wide range of delicious, top quality tea ready for you to try.
